Somernites Power Cruise

Out of all the years that I’ve heard great things about the massive cruise in events in Somerset, Kentucky, I finally made the trip for the first time last month. I didn’t actually plan on going to this particular event, but Coker Tire sponsored the Power Cruise and hosted a starting point in Chattanooga, so I figured I’d support the cause. I’m sure glad I did, because it was a great way to spend the weekend.

The NSRA Street Rod Nationals 2012

Always one of the biggest events of the year, the NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky is a must-go for folks in the hot rod industry. This year is no different, as more than 10,000 street rods poured into the fairgrounds for a weekend of the same stuff they did last year. With that in mind, it’s tough to find fresh, new cars to shoot, so the idea is to walk each and every isle to find the new stuff.

Since the NSRA opened up its limitations on model year, the show has improved in my opinion. It allows cars like this awesome Chevy II gasser into the show…even though it technically isn’t a street rod.

July Bounty Race Coverage

Well, the heat of summer has set in and it was apparent at the July Bounty Race. While the temperatures were not unbearable, the racer count was a bit low in the heads up street classes, which is normal for the dead-of-summer months. However, a strong turnout of index racers came to I-40 Dragway, gunning for a $2,000 winner’s purse. Throughout the night, the action grew more intense, and it culminated with a series of great final round passes.

Todd Lyle’s nitrous big block Camaro is a consistent contender in the Pro Street class. One of the few nitrous combinations in the class, Todd’s car rarely skips a beat.

Hot Rod Reunion 2012

June is undoubtedly my busiest time of the year, especially with the Great Race, which is a 13-day affair this year. Last year, the Great Race knocked me out of going to my favorite event, the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, Kentucky, so I wasn’t exactly pleased by that. However, the dates changed for the 2012 Great Race, so it opened up Father’s Day weekend and allowed my dad and I to head up to Bowling Green for a few days.

Practiced my pan shots from my favorite spot on the spectator side fence. Long burnouts are pretty common so it’s a great place to get cool, rolling burnout photos.

Goodguys Nashville Nationals

Without a doubt, 2012 has been a busy year so far. I’ve attended more events than ever, and I’m about to go full blast into the crazy month of June. As far as May is concerned, well, it’s almost over but I’ve covered a lot of ground. The Goodguys Nashville Nationals was yet another stop on my schedule, and provided lots of good stuff to shoot.

Nashville is such a cool place, and LP Field has proven to be a great spot for the Goodguys Nashville Nationals. The Pro’s Pick area is prominently shown here…the best of the best!

Show and Go Spring 2012!

Time sure does fly when you’re on the go 24/7! Seems like it was just a few weeks ago that I went down to Paradise Drag Strip for the Show and Go event, but it’s that time of year again. This year, the Show and Go came the day after the Strawberry Festival Cruise In, so it definitely made for a packed weekend for me.

Strawberry Festival Cruise In

Well, it’s that time of year again…time for the Strawberry Festival here in my hometown of Dayton, Tennessee. It’s an event that is a pretty big deal to Dayton residents, and the biggest days of the event are generally Friday night because of the Cruise In and Block Party, and Saturday because of the parade. For me, the Cruise In is the attraction, so I always try to support it by bringing at least one vehicle to it. This year, I upped the effort and ended up having a great time.
