Alright, I’m running behind on this stuff, but here we go! My favorite drag racing photos of 2012!Click HERE for more pictures!
Yep…still trying to get caught up on event coverages! The first weekend of October included two drag racing events in the same day. The second half of my day was spent at Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip for the Fall Bracket Bash, which also featured the 4.70 index guys and the new 275 drag radial heads up class. Honestly, I went to this event only because of the 275 class, but was surprised at the great turnout of cars in the bracket classes. A lot of cool stuff that I’d never seen before, so it definitely made for a great event!Click HERE for more pictures!
I’m still trying to get caught up on all of my event coverages, and it didn’t help that I had a double headers a couple of weekends ago. My dad and I planned to take our ’67 Camaro drag car down there to test it, and see if we could possibly sell it. Unfortunately, those plans fell through, but we still made the trip down to Calhoun, Georgia to have a good time. It’s always fun, and the Paradise Show and Go event always offers lots of excitement thanks to a wide variety of cars.Click HERE for more pictures!
Another month goes by and it’s time for another Bounty Race at I-40 Dragway. I had a few other things to accomplish, so I got to the track a little later than usual, but still did my best to cover it. Car count was a little better than months past, but there are still a lot of cars that are in the midst of repairs or rebuilds.Click HERE for more pictures!
Since Knoxville Drag Strip in Maynardville, Tennessee, got revamped a few years ago, I’ve been to the track a number of times, but I’d never attended one of its Heads Up races. The format is similar to the Bounty Race, with the exception of a couple classes. Knoxville always has a 4.70 index class, so I looked forward to seeing those cars compete along with the regular crowd of 7.0, 6.0 and 5.70 index racers. In addition to this Knoxville has Pro Street and Cheap Street classes, which always provide lots of excitement.Click HERE for more pictures!
Well, the heat of summer has set in and it was apparent at the July Bounty Race. While the temperatures were not unbearable, the racer count was a bit low in the heads up street classes, which is normal for the dead-of-summer months. However, a strong turnout of index racers came to I-40 Dragway, gunning for a $2,000 winner’s purse. Throughout the night, the action grew more intense, and it culminated with a series of great final round passes.

My home track, I-40 Dragway is known for its Bounty Race event, which is a monthly heads up race that always brings out a great crowd of racers and spectators to the eighth mile track. The Howe family has owned the track for 20+ years, and Jim Jr. is always creating new events to keep things fresh and exciting from year to year. For 2012, the highlight event for I-40 Dragway was the World Index Challenge, which offered up a $10,000 prize for 6.0 and 7.0 index classes. We’re talking guaranteed money here, so it drew racers from all over the country, and made for a HUGE event!
